Batch Gone Awry

Options

I had a batch of 149 gifts (our cc gifts are processed through a different company and entered manually) that I entered in database view. Before committing, it showed no exceptions. After I committed the batch, it processed 1 gift and made a batch of 148 exceptions. The Batch Commit Control Report lists 1 gift as processed (which is needed for audit records.) Upon investigation of several individual records from the batch, the gifts are there for the date I'm working on. I ran a Daily Gift Summary report (as I do for each batch that gets filed for accounting purposes) and so after checking one page of the five, every gift is in the record.

So, why did RE database create all these exceptions? How can I prevent this in the future?

(This has happened one other time in the past three years we've had RE (this past month even) but that instance, RE crashed or we lost internet or something mid transfer. All gifts were in people's records. To my knowledge, that did not happen this time when I committed the batch.)
