Please create a standard report for the IRS 990, donors who gave $5,000 or more.

Options

In 2023, it's hard to fathom how a donor and financial software doesn't have a standard report built that pulls donor names, addresses, and gift amounts >$5,000 individually or in the aggregate with an option to filter out gifts under $1,000 for a major IRS 990 form component. Can Blackbaud PLEASE create this in Raiser's Edge and NXT?

@Robert Martin While I don't disagree with the sentiment, I don't think a standard report would work too well. So many organizations have certain too many exclusions that creating a simple query is the best route.

I think this would end up similar to the VSE report which is a nightmare to use.

  • @Robert Martin, I too have a simple query built that I tweak each year.

If you like, you could add your thought under the ideas tab if one hasn't been created. Blessings!

  • @Dariel Dixon I'm thinking more that if we're eventually moving away from RE7 and they're porting over everything to NXT by sometime next year, (ie. doing away with the old way of writing queries) they need to have a standard report that we as users can then customize, filter, etc. That's my hope. Even writing a query is cumbersome. They used to have it in FIMS with the Fund Accounting, but I believe that module was sold off at some point. Maybe I'm wrong about that latter piece though.

  • @Dariel Dixon?and as to the VSE report, let's just say I'm glad I'm not in the education field anymore.

I HIGHLY doubt that everything is going to shift away from database view during 2024. I know Blackbaud has made a fairly strong statement to that effect but it seems incredibly unlikely. The releases lately are all about new functionality and not about bringing over existing functionality. I think their actions are more telling than anything.

Blackbaud has announced that they are bringing Query into webview which apparently will exist along with Lists. I'll wait and see what that looks like before I get too excited but it is an indicator of their direction.

This is not a difficult Query and Export to create, and I do feel confident that the data will be able to be extracted from Webview. It may not be exactly what we all want, or it might be better than what we all want. But the ability to pull the data will be there.

A colleague told me yesterday that our BB rep had said that everything would be moving to web view within two years and I laughed because at least from a UK standpoint - web view barely handles Gift Aid at the moment as it is and I can't see BB managing to completely bring it over (a current known bug is that Giving Statements have a column for it…. but it is zero) in that timeframe.

I would love to be wrong about it, but it's a huge ask.

Yeah, the sales reps always paint a different picture! Blackbaud was pretty clear in the spring PUB about their intent. It sounded like EVEN if functionality was available in webview, it does not mean that all of database view will go away any time soon.
