Crystal report vs Power bi

Options

I would like to know if you will migrate your reports from crystal reports to power bi or if you prefer to keep them in crystal reports?

  • @Veronica Krivis, we use a combination of Power BI and Report Builder. Report Builder is similar to Crystal Reports for pagination-type reports and is easier to print and export keeping the desired format. Power Bi will be used to provide visualizations and self-service analytics.

  • @Salvador Orochena Hi! We are considering Power BI too, does it support gift soft credits and “head of the household” options?

    For the revenue, acquisition, and retention dashboards, the fact that Report Builder does not support soft credits is a big limitation for us.

    Thanks!

    @Fiamma Zamori
    Power BI is flexible to whatever you want to build as long as you can get the data for it and model the data for your report accordingly. The data for gift and gift soft credit does exist by API. You will want to get started with developer.blackbaud.com

  • Hi @Fiamma Zamori, I am not using the direct connection between Power BI and RE NXT. We use a local database backup as the source, which allows us to use all data. Unfortunately, the data is not live and updated nightly.

  • @Salvador Orochena Thank you for clarifying your process!
