Constituent Records Demoted to Nonconstituent in Error

Options

Someone at our institution demoted spouse Constituent records to non-constituent (relationship) records in error. All of these had soft credits for gifts. While I can promote the records to Constituent using their previous ID number, and make sure they are soft-credited for their spouse's gifts, I cannot seem to get their soft credits to appear in various Summary Totals in an export. Any ideas?

@Anna Bivens Welcome to the BB community forums.
No offense but I'm assuming you are fairly new to RE. Does your organization have a policy on who is have constituent records vs. a relationship only? I ask as most orgs do not create a record just to record soft-credits. Is there a reason the spouse has their own record?

To your questions, with your export, you said summary info so I opened criteria for summary info > Gifts > Total Gift amount. What option are you using on this screen? To have SC show you need “Both” marked (or SC only).

Are the spouse names appearing on the report? If not do they pull in the query? And on the Export General 1 tab have you marked to “Export both constituents separately”?

Just trying to figure out a bit more about the exact issue.

    Hi JoAnn,

We are not new to RE, but one of our users, who should have known better, created the mess. My query and export are set up correctly. The issue is trying to get the soft credits back to those who were demoted, AND, once I reinstate them as constituents with their original ID, the soft credits show up on the screen, but not in gift summary reporting. In addition, the soft credits of the hard credit spouse (who had an ID) are overstated in gift summary reporting by the amount of the soft credits of the demoted spouse.

@Anna Bivens Open up several of the gift records and look at the SC tab. It sounds like donor may be SC for their own gifts. That may be why their amount is inflated.

Then also look, is spouse listed on gift record for the SC?
