Updating Existing Soft Credit Amounts Via Import

Options

Hi,

I have over 1500 records that I updated the gift amount for. I realized after the import that the soft credits didn't dynamically update with that change. So I'm in import trying to update the amounts for the existing soft credit recipients. I choose when starting the import to Update existing records, I do not leave it on the default of creating new records. I also leave the option for the import to create new records unchecked.

I map all fields available in guide except SoftCredit Import ID (see screenshot below) because I don't know where to find that. Even when I do populate that header, RE Import isn't picking it up as a mapped field for reference. I'm not sure if that's a factor in this problem or not.

I get the same validation error every time: “Cannot have duplicate soft credits.”

My understanding from this message is that the import thinks I'm trying to add a second soft credit for the existing recipient to the same record. I'm not I'm trying to update the amount of the existing entry. This is why I thought that Soft Credit Import ID may be a factor but I don't know where to find that field in query.

Has anyone used import for this specific scenario with success. Or do you have any guesses/pointers? I'm on my third Blackbaud support rep trying to troubleshoot and not having much luck.

Update/Clarification: If I try to import using the Gift template fields, I get the error message above. If I try to import using the Soft Credits template, I get told the Import ID is required (even though I already have it populated in GftLnk). I tried adding that same import ID in a second column and mapping that as the Soft Credit Import ID, and the import runs, but fails, saying that Soft Credit Import ID doesn't exist.

This phantom import ID for soft credits is making me batty, because where is it?! >:-/
