Online Express Donations in Dashboard

Options

We are just moving to NXT from on-site Raisers Edge installation. We use Online Express for our online donations. Is there a way to segregate the Online Express donations from other non-Online Express donations? We have been using the Gift Attribute in our current reporting which shows whether it originated from Online Express. I can't find any field in the Insight Designer that would show this attribute.

Thank you

  • I should maybe have clarified that I want to do this in the Insight Builder for Dashboard reporting.

  • @Kerry Kelleher the only way I can think of achieving this goal would be to have an appeak category “OLX” and “non-OLX”. This would be in the appeal report centre so you can filter by appeal. At this time I do not believe gift attributes are options for insights or dashboard reports. Assuming you do not have Insight Designer, and are using the standard insight elements to create dashboards.

Hi Lucy, thanks for the response. I believe we do have the Insight Designer. I was trying to create a new Insight but I don't see the gift attributes available to pick from the fields available in the Gift section. Are there other ways to define custom fields that aren't listed on the left hand side in the Insight Designer?

    Thanks,
    Kerry

  • @Kerry Kelleher I do not believe so. That is why I suggested using a field that currently is available for reporting such as “appeal category”.

  • @Kerry KelleherAnd this is why having two separate databases (RE 7 & RE NXT), where one is not fully functional and has not been for years and may take more years to complete is AN ISSUE. Blackbaud was in such a hurry to push this incomplete product out. Like I want to buy a car that only has two wheels instead of four.

  • @Lucy Ruiz
Thank you! I will try that out, thanks for the suggestion!

Yes, I can see that the Web View is not fully functional for all that we need to do so we will be working in Database View for a while - hopefully Web View will continue to get developed. I am hoping to move much of the reporting to Web View Dashboards/Insights but I am now seeing it isn't as robust as I had hoped. And it seems like the data is also not instantly refreshed so if you add things in Database View (i.e. Appeal Categories), I am not seeing it in Web View right away - hopefully in 2 hours it will refresh and be there for me.

  • @Kerry Kelleher The various fields have different refresh rates from database view to RE NXT:

    Database-to-Web View Refresh Rates

Raiser's Edge NXT includes two views of your data — the web view and database view— and continuously passes information and edits between the two. The rate at which the two views refresh or sync varies depending on the type of information.

    Real-time refresh

Updates to most constituent details — such as contact information, biographical details, custom fields, actions, and opportunities — automatically appear in both views in real-time. To view the latest changes in the web view, refresh your browser. For more information, see Constituent Records.

Note: Updates to a constituent's fundraiser or giving information in one view may take up to 30 minutes to appear in the other.

    30-minute refresh

Updates to fundraiser assignments or giving information in one view may take up to 30 minutes to appear in the other. For more information, see Fundraisers or Gifts.

    Hourly refresh

Media added in the database view may take up to an hour to appear as attachments in the web view.

Note: Any subsequent edits to media in the database view — and any media over 100 mb — won't appear in the web view. Likewise, attachments added in the web view doesn't appear as media in the database view. For more information, see Attachments or Media?.

    Two-to-three-hour refresh

Note: If no one at your organization has used these reports in over a month, the initial data refresh might take up to 24 hours.

    Nightly refresh

To help focus on relationships that need your attention, Raiser's Edge NXT automatically listens to your active constituent records and tags them each night based on special situations such as upcoming birthdays or lapsed giving. These tags appear under Tags on constituent records and in constituent lists and help determine which constituents appear under Needs attention under Overview in Fundraising, Work. For more information, see Tags and Recommendations.

Thanks so much, that is very helpful. I hope you don't mind if I ask you another question on a different topic - it seems that the Database View (Citrix connection?) gets closed automatically after a certain amount of inactivity time I am assuming. Is there anyway to adjust how much time it will stay open with no activity?

  • @Kerry KelleherUnfortunately you cannot adjust that.

@Kerry Kelleher - You can do this occasionally through requesting support to extend your session, but as Joe mentioned there is no option turn on/off within the system for this.

Unfortunately as you are already made aware, RE NXT insight designer is terribly lacking in the area of attribute (custom field) data.

While using database view reporting is still viable, given how often database view performance is bad, we have opt to do custom reporting via “low-code” development using SKY API and Microsoft's Power Automate. “custom reporting" and development may sound scary but it isn't that bad once you get into it. I recommend giving it a look via developer.blackbaud.com and get started.
