API access and data use comply with Facebook

Options

We have Facebook connected to our Teamraiser. I received an email stating that they are requiring an annual checkup to make sure our API access and data use comply with Facebook policies. We have been using FB and Teamraiser since it was made available and never had to do this. Has anyone had to do this? Does this apply to TeamRaiser? Here are the steps to do:

Here's what you need to do before March 25, 2023 to maintain API access and avoid deactivation:

1. Examine your previously approved or added permissions, features and products.

2. Certify your app complies with allowed usage.

3. Certify compliance with the Facebook Platform Terms and Developer Policies, together with all other applicable terms and policies.

Data Use Checkup is a requirement that must be completed once per year by an app admin.

    Hi @Patti Posey -

Yes, Facebook requires that checkup. They will deactivate apps that don't complete it.

In the Maintain Your Facebook App help topic, we have a screenshot to clarify that only two permissions are necessary for the integration: public_profile and email. Any other permission in your app is up to you if you want to keep it. However, now that there is strict privacy laws in place, for some of the other permissions, such as user_birthday, for example, they may ask for a business case from you to justify why you need that data.

Most older apps have a lot of extra permissions, actually, because a few years back, the permissions were available without needing a business case to use the data. Many permissions were a part of the default. So, when you fill out your Data Checkup, if you see permissions other than public_profile and email, and you don't use those permissions for anything, I recommend that you remove them. It will make reviews go a lot faster and less effort on your part to explain what you are doing with data gleaned from those permissions.

Let me know if you have any questions as you complete the checkup!

    Thanks,

    Colleen
