late? feedback mostly around grading assessments

Options

I had been collecting up some feedback to post to this forum all at once. Now that I see New Assessments is rolling out to general availability this might not be as useful. However, here it is anyway in case it's useful for the next development cycle:

  • Ability to go to the Assessment from the Gradebook is missing. Would like to be able to do that like I can for assignments. Otherwise, needing to go and find it in the Assignment list in a different window is cumbersome.
  • View uncommitted points on grading screen before committing so you can easily see an overview of how everyone did before you share results.
  • For questions that are not automatically graded such as essays, provide a button to mark questions as correct and grant full points to the question without having to manually type in points.
  • When “show only questions awaiting evaluation” is on, the question disappears as soon as you click an arrow to assign points. This is a problem if you are trying to use that for a question that is worth more than 1 point. e.g. You click once for 1 point then it disappears before you can switch it to 2.
  • Don't have the formatting tool bar block the student answer. In practice, I occasionally found it more difficult to leave feedback when I can not see the answer at the same time.

    Hi @Bill Campbell -

Thanks for passing this along! It's also not too late to relay feedback. This feature is something that we'll be watching closely for the next couple of months and you'll see further development happening for it in the coming months. We just feel like we've achieved a valuable feature that we no longer want to hold back from all of our schools. I've also addressed your points below, some with good news!

    • Ability to go to the Assessment from the Gradebook is missing. Would like to be able to do that like I can for assignments. Otherwise, needing to go and find it in the Assignment list in a different window is cumbersome.
      • This is actually on our short list of things to solve for. The issue that the builder populates in a very different component than assignments do. So, from a technical perspective, it makes it tricky to implement. I can't promise it, but it is something we're looking into.
    • View uncommitted points on grading screen before committing so you can easily see an overview of how everyone did before you share results.
      • I can see the value on this! Getting a quick at-a-glance before committing would likely be a welcome feature. The current issue that we're running into is that the Evaluation screen is a ‘stage’ and we currently keep it separate from what actively displays in the Gradebook. Once the grades are in the Gradebook, at that point the Evaluate screen and the Gradebook share the same Staging. There are some technical reasons behind the scenes that caused us to build it in this way. While I can't promise that this would show specifically in the Gradebook, I think that at-a-glance view might be something we could incorporate in the future in some capacity.
    • For questions that are not automatically graded such as essays, provide a button to mark questions as correct and grant full points to the question without having to manually type in points.
      • I could see how this would be useful especially if the teacher is having to grade a lot of essays in one sitting. Not sure how this would specifically look in the software, but we'll chew on this idea for a bit.
    • When “show only questions awaiting evaluation” is on, the question disappears as soon as you click an arrow to assign points. This is a problem if you are trying to use that for a question that is worth more than 1 point. e.g. You click once for 1 point then it disappears before you can switch it to 2.
      • Ah, that is not what we intend to happen. We'll take a look at this internally and make a determination on how we can make the experience better.
    • Don't have the formatting tool bar block the student answer. In practice, I occasionally found it more difficult to leave feedback when I can not see the answer at the same time.
      • This is something else we'll need to look into. I appreciate the screenshot on this one. We'll take a look into what we can do.
