Last minute time extension?

Options

One of my teachers asked me how to deal with a particular situation. I don't have a good suggestion, so I'm asking the collective…

The teacher creates a timed assessment. (Students who are permitted extra time due to an IAP have the time adjusted before the assessment begins.) It will be given during a class period with the teacher proctoring.

After students begin the assessment, one student must leave briefly (for a trip to the restroom, etc.) The teacher wants to allow that student five extra minutes to complete the assessment.

Allowing the student to retake the assessment would erase the previous responses.

What suggestions do you have for allowing this?

    Hey @Brian Gray -

We don't necessarily have that built out as a separate feature, however the ‘Allow continue’ feature will do what you're needing.

In this circumstance, when the student needs to leave the room for a bathroom break, they'll want to click ‘Close’ while they're taking the assessment.

Once the student returns and is ready to begin the assessment again, the teacher can go to the Evaluation screen and click ‘Allow continue’. This will trigger a Resume option for the student in their assignment center. The student's previous work will be saved, and they'll begin the timer where they left off, thus no need to extend the time.

Let me know if you have any questions!

  • @Michael Morrissette - thanks for the quick response. Your suggestion is exactly what my teacher was looking for.
