Legacy kintera.org domain taken over by gambling site, breaking Sphere > Luminate redirects

Support.

It looks like Blackbaud has let the kintera.org domain registration expire.

A company that sells online gambling services has bought the domain and redirected all links to their online gambling community site.

When we transitioned from Sphere to Luminate, we had redirects in place for all the old Sphere kintera.org giving page links, so visitors would be directed to the correct Luminate giving page.

Now they are redirected to a gambling site which creates a very disturbing and confusing experience, causing constituents to contact our support for fear their computer or phone has been hacked.

We did the best we could to inform our partners to update any kitnera.org links that remain in content they manage, but there are plenty of deep links we have no control over, such as old PDFs, communications, social media posts, etc.

Is there any way for you to purchase back the kintera.org domain and resolve this?

If not to restore the redirects, to at least create a less confusing experience for our constituents?
You could have at least put a message in place like “please contact your support for a link to the new giving page” rather than letting the domain expire and be bought by scam artists.

It could have cost you only $10/yr to avoid this problem.

Thanks

I would contact your CSM and open a ticket with Support if you haven't already. That is terrible you have to go through this. I am sure the domain squatter that purchased it will not give it up easily..

I hope this gets figured out for you.

    Phil
