Email need to be checked as primary?

Options

Due to our vice president's recent passing, there is a shift in how things were done and how they will be.

Were done: I had to email her names and emails of constituents who wanted our newsletter via email.

Now done: All is/will be entered/updated in RE database.

My question: Those that are already present in RE and marked to receive the newsletter via email (we use an attribute), will they receive it if there is not a check in the primary box?? The gal taking over this responsibility has no idea as well. (Many have an email listed, the attribute to receive it, but primary is not marked beside the email address.)

Thank you!

@Dana Burton My understanding and experience is that checking the primary box is not required. You did not say how you would be pulling your list in RE or what platform email is sent through. If creating query or export do not use a criteria that email needs to be primary.

Are you sending through webview? There is a whole series of things to consider if you are, such as the primary email that you're asking about, but also their email opt-out status, the criteria in your list, and consent. Possibly other criteria too!

This link may help you wade through the settings.

  • @JoAnn Strommen, the lady in charge of this got back to me - she is exporting the list to use with our mail server.

  • @Dana Burton, it depends on how you are setting up your email-types and pulling your list… Did you setup a specific email-type just for newsletter's mailing (i.e. “Newsletter”) ? If so, select this email-type as one of your criteria. If not, do you normally use a specific email-type when communicating with your constituents via email? If not and if your have multiple email-addresses recorded for each constituent, it might be better to assign one of the email-addresses as “preferred”… There are two possible ways to mark an email-address as “preferred”. One way is that there is a Plug-In called “Mark Phones Primary” (Phones or Emails); you can designate which phone/email type as “Primary". The other way is that you may have to use Import to “update existing records”… Hope this could be helpful…
