What will happen with warning "This contact email is already the username for [x] with BBID

Options

Hi there,

I am fairly new to Blackbaud, and I am working on setting up for my school's migration to BBID. It is unclear to me what will happen if we have accounts with the warning “This contact email is already the username for [x]." Do I need to resolve this warning before the migration? If we're using the email as the username, will the system automatically default to the user who first had the email as a username? Any guidance is appreciated!

  • Hi Claudia, you will need to resolve the warning by emailing them and asking which one uess that email address (which will be their username) and ask the other to provide a unique email address that will also be their username. Once you have the info, update their records and then send/resend invite to appropriate emails.

  • @Claudia Mihm - the contact email address does not have to be the same as the Blackbaud ID email address. A few of our families have a contact email address that is used for both parents. (This allows them to collect all emails from the school in an account separate from their other non-school email.)

In that case, the email address is used as the BB-ID for one of the parents. The other parent either provides a different email address for a BB-ID, or doesn't have a BB-ID assigned. (Since both parents have access to the shared contact email address, both can sign into the account for the parent that uses it as a BB-ID.)

  • Thank you Brian and Sandra, I appreciate you weighing in on how you navigated this – very helpful!
