Honor/Memorial donations

Hi everyone! First time asking a question here--sometimes we receive donations in honor of or in memory of someone whose family requests that in lieu of flowers or gifts, they send donations in honor of their loved one or their special day. We have a donation form (created in Luminate) that the donor fills in the Honor/Memorial name, and then specifies the name and address of who they want notified of their gift. I've noticed that each time someone enters this information, a new record is established for the Honor/Memorial. So, I could get 5 gifts in Honor/Memory of someone, and 5 new records are opened for that person. I then have to go in and merge those records until I have all in one record, and it is a time confusing and sometimes confusing process. I'd like to know if anyone else has encountered this issue, and how they handled it? Thank you in advance!

  • Hi Michele, We also had this issue and asked about this. Unfortunately, we were told that we did have to create a new record each time. Frustrating - I know!

  • Hi Christine--Yes, very frustrating. I will have to create one main record and then merge the others into it. I don't want to lose the donor/family notification information, and would like it to remain in that one main record.

  • It also depends how you would like/need to track this. We moved to using a static text field for this. So the honoree and notification information comes into a text field in our CRM and we use that for the eventual merge of letters.
