Power BI - getting more Constituent and Gift fields

Options

We have set up the connector and can see the Navigator section in Get Data. However, the list of fields seems to be very limited. We are looking for additional fields such as Appeal ID, Appeal Description, Package ID etc. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so how?

  • @Andrew Wilks You can get the appeal id and package id from the Gift API (you will have to expand the gift splits column, see screen shots below). Then you would need the Fundraising API to connect the Appeal ID from the gift information with the Appeal ID from the Fundraising API so you could get the Appeal description. It does not appear that you can get the Package description, just the Package ID.

    @Ben Lambert feel free to chime in if there is more information to share with Andrew.

    Just select the information you want to see to show them in separate columns.

  • @Dan Snyder Thank you for the tips. I'm afraid we're struggling to see how you got to the columns that included gift_splits. Would you mind just screenshotting us through the process? It's frustrating being so close, but not being able to find it. Your help is much appreciated!

  • No worries. We have figured this out now!

  • Great thank you for this! Is there a way to automatically have the data refresh in the model? I found once I had built my report and published it that the figures never updated. Would we need to go down the route of setting up the PowerBI Gateway or something on those lines?

  • @Dan Snyder and @Ben Lambert - I am opening the gift split columns to get to fund and other fields, but then I'm getting an error with duplicate gift IDs from actual gift splits. Have you found a way to handle those in PowerBI?

  • @Kathryn Lee We do not actually use split gifts in RE so I am afraid I may not be help here, but could I ask are you getting that error in just expanding the fields or when you try to join it with another table?

    @Ben Lambert

  • @Dan Snyder Hi Dan, Is there a way for us to pull fund_ID into gift table?

    @Viet Truong You should be able to create a relationship between the tables or merge the gift and fund tables to bring the fund id over.

  • @Dan Snyder Thank you Dan, I am able to Fund_ID under Gift Split. Thank You ?
