Welcome series testing?

Options

We are working to implement a new donor welcome series and would love to test the flow and view the emails to make sure these are being deployed on time and in the correct order.

Has anyone ever tested the welcome series email cadence without actually including real donors into the email flow? If so how were you able to test?

  • Hi Hayley,

I have tested it in the past by taking the action(s) to get my test constituent account into the query(ies) and checking that the test constituent moved along to the following queries as they were supposed to. That way you ensure your queries are setup properly and moving people along so they get all the emails.

I tested the email sends by simply just sending email tests to myself and my team to ensure everything looked ok and there weren't any errors.

One really handy way to setup the welcome series emails is to use reusables in PageBuilder for the copy. That way if you need to edit the copy, you can easily edit the reusable and not have to cancel the recurring setup of the email to edit/update the copy.

    Cheers,

    Meghan

  • Thank you! We love using reusable pages everywhere we can. They save so much time and energy. When you add your test constituent to the email flow is it all by itself or in with potential new donors? We are trying to send only to a test audience and then roll it out to the new donor audience but if there is no way to to target just a segment of test donors then we will plan to monitor our test constituent along with our new donor audience.

Off the top of my head I would say that the best way to test this would be put all the test records into a group. Build your welcome series query with parentheses around it and then add a clause of AND is a member of the group. Then use that record to trigger the welcome series and that way it will only go out to those test emails.

Another way to do it (if you want to test new emails) would be to use an email contains or email is equal to and include part of or all of the test email address only.
