Using Apex Data Loader to batch up designations?

Hi, folks!

 

Has anyone out there successfully used used Apex Data Loader to update or add designations to donation records in LuminateCRM or Common Ground?  I feel like this *should* be possible, but the designation widget adds a level of complexity.
