In Honor Tribute and Soft Credit?

Options
We recently started using the tribute module for birthday fundraisers. If a donor gives a gift in honor of someone's birthday, and that birthday is already set up as an In Honor tribute, should we also soft credit the person whose birthday it is? Otherwise it looks like you can't tell how much the birthday person has raised without going to the tribute tab.

Does each birthday fundraiser have it's own appeal?

How does your org define SC? it would not fit our definition of SC.

If the birthday person is actually the 'fundraiser' I'd consider assignment as a fundraiser with type of birthday. That would be easy to report on.

    Just my opinon.
  • Here's what I think you're saying is happening - It's my birthday, and there's a tribute on my record called "In honor of Heather's birthday" - then Shirley makes a donation to it. Right?

If yes, then all that needs to happen is the gift entry, with the entry of the tribute information. There are reports that can be run in the "Tribute Reports" section of your reports area, or there's also a button to click from within the tribute itself that shows the gifts given to that tribute. It's also a queryable bit of information.

No, you should not soft credit the honoree. That's the point of having a tribute record. It's easier to report on a tribute than it is on a soft credit.
  • I agree wit Dariel. You should not soft credit the honoree. I find reporting on soft credits challenging and providing inaccurate totals.
