Reporting on Org Employees & Subsidiary Employees

Options

Hi, all!

We store organizations as relationships with their subsidiaries, indicated by a relationship of Parent Organization/Subsidiary. What we are trying to achieve is a way to report on all the employees of a given organization, as well as all that organization's subsidiary employees. Basically, we need to roll up the employee count/reporting to the parent organization level, and be able to include all the employees of all the subsidiaries, as well as any subsidiaries of those subsidiaries, for as many levels as that may go. We have our university record set up as close to reality as possible, with departments as their own records, and these levels go down 6 or more sometimes, all of which may have employee relationships. We need to be able to pull all the employees of our parent org and have it include the employees of the subsids, as well as the employees of the subsids of the subsids (and the subsids of the subsids of the subsids...).

Any thoughts?

Thank you!

  • The only thing that comes to mind is that you can at least get a quick list of all related employees by going to the top-level organizational record in database view, and clicking on the "Relationship Tree" icon at the top of the constituent record. This gets you a printable list, but it doesn't get you a financial report or actionable query. For that, I would strongly suggest adding a secondary marker to all related records -- either a Constituent Code, attribute, or a second direct relationship to said parent organization - that marks all such employees as members of the same "employee family group". That is, an employee might be linked to her direct department in the Maintenance Dept, but said employee would also have an umbrella marker as an "SIU Employee" or "Red Cross Affiliate", etc. I personally recommend Constituent codes for this purpose, since they lend themselves nicely to Demographic and Statistical revenue reports by constituency.
  • Thank you for the excellent tips, Faith! Much appreciated!
