Constituent responds to appeal with gift from foundation, company, etc

Options
Lots of times a constituent will respond to an appeal with a gift from their company, DAF, foundation, etc. How do I handle the appeal in this situation?  I can add the appeal to the foundation's record but the appeal response on the constituent's record will be blank as well as the amount. I hope this is not going to be a "duh" moment when one of you answers me.

  • Why does the appeal response have to be blank along with the amount? I would just post the gift to the individual's record with the appeal. Does this make any sense? I may be way off base for you but this is how we would handle this in our organization.

If the gift comes in from a company/foundation, the way most org process the gift, you're correct.  The appeal on the constituent record will not automatically show a response to the appeal. My suggestion would be a response entry of "Gave via company.." or something along those lines. Then in the comments you could put company name and amount. (I moved the comments field to the left so it's visible on screen. Don't know why user can't pick visible/hidden column on this screen.)

Yes, soft credit would be appropriate if gift is from company owned by the constituent, DAF or maybe family foundation etc. But we would not soft credit for a gift from a constituent's employer even if gift came because employee received the appeal.
  • that is how we manage it as well Candy and in the gift reference we would put the org name/where the check came from
