Handling the much larger volume of "Virtual Event" Registrations

Since the pandemic hit we are hosting more and more virtual events, and participation in some of these events has gotten to the point where the Gift/Event Processing department is complaining that's it's "too much"! (A good problem to have!).


Their main issue seems to be when they go to process the Registrations in RE that are collected from NC, the participant often makes typos/case mistakes when filling in the reg form details :-)  ...even more than usual. So in order to process the registration in RE the data processor has to play the "constituent matching game" for perhaps up to 5K registrations= not workable.


Does anyone have any "tips and tricks" to streamlining the event registration process that they could share? (For example, I see there is a batch/bulk feature that some folks may use, but it looks like there may be a lot of cleanup work involved in that feature- which, again, would be daunting for a 5K batch). I also thought about maybe going to a custom form part and importing the data through the Importomatic plugin, too (and using our little dictionary of regex formulas to correct common errors) -- but that might be hard to integrate to the same degree that the official NC Reg Form Part is.


So any ideas? What are other folks doing in these COVID-times?
