Adjustments in reports

I've run into an issue that I'm not sure how to resolve.  I've got a donor that has a pledge that was made a couple of years ago for a campaign.  The majority of this pledge was a planned gift.  However, we have since moved on to another campaign, and the donor made an adjustment to his pledge to include a cash gift for the new campaign while decreasing the amount of the planned gift.  The total gift amount would stay the same.  However, there is some worry because the adjusted appeals and funds are not being reported correctly.  Is there a way to have these adjustments show up in the gift reports?  Specifically, is there an option in any of the canned reports to account for adjustments.


When this gift was changed, I thought (famous last words) that it would be more accurate to make an adjustment on the original pledge and split the gifts with it.  I had considered deleting the original pledge and back dating a new pledge with the corrected amount, and then creating another new pledge for the other split.  I decided against it because it would make the gift history look a little confusing.  Granted, it's still confusing because the gift pledge shows up inaccurately in NXT as well, as it has 2 pledges for the full amount on the main constituent page, but once your click on the actual gift, it looks correct.

    I must preface my post with the fact that I have not run into your exact issue.  We had an issue with a donor who changed a very large planned gift/pledge/cash and we ended up deleting and recreating.  It worked out, in our case, the pledge got paid off by the original cash gift and so we had only the planned gift to deal with since.  Of course, this required new paperwork.  Also, since then it is always a question when the auditors are visiting.  Luckily, we kept very detailed explanations of what, why and when.


    Have you already tried using the "Calculate gift balance based on date range, campaign, fund and appeal" checkbox which is under the Gift Types tab of many reports. Using that with the Pledge and Recurring Gifts > Pledge Status Report  might help by choosing the needed Report Format under Format > Detail ?

    In Financial Reports there is an Adjusted Gift Report, but I have never used it.

  • When you have a gifts list in NXT, the splits amounts DO NOT SHOW, (hope Blackbaud will fix this soon). Our Development Officers are very irritated by this.  I'm with you in wanting to maintain the original gift entry date, but in this case I'd really suggest entering a new pledge for the cash portion, and adjusting the original pledge to show the new planned giving amount. This will help with reporting on pledges with a balance as the cash pledge will show as paid and the planned gift will still show as outstanding.
