how do you set up realtionships that may change each year?

Options
We have lists of mentors and mentees. I was thinking to add the relationship of mentor and mentee . How would you account for the duration of this relationship?

If you're entering as a relationship/reciprocal, there are dates from and to right below the those fields.  I think that would do what you are asking about.

Not something we enter so maybe someone who does enter that kind of relationship would have a suggestion.

Tip, for relationships that have ended I code the legend to display them in a gray so they are still on relationship tab but clear when viewing that relationship has ended.

Explanation for tip in above post as I was asked how this is done. Glad to share - I picked up the tip on the forum a number of years ago. I believe from John Heizer.

Legends can be set under Tools > User Options > Color (>Legends). You can display many of the lists in color.

For relationships and gifts, I prefer doing it while on that tab of a record in db view so I can see results. Right click anywhere in the window and select Legend. There is an option of "Inactive Relationships" - when you select it there's a small color box to the right.  Click the color box and then select desired color.  I chose a medium gray.  As noted the order of the legend options determines which color setting is seen.  So, I moved "Inactive Relationships" up to about the 5th one on the list above 'Assigned Solicitors', 'Spouse,' 'Contacts,' 'Employees,' - all the types I want in gray if inactive.
