Transgender Students

Good morning, 


I am sure there are existing discussions  regarding transgender student records, and I apologize if I am repeating a questions asked in the past. We are a small Preschool-8th grade school and in the past 6 months two of our young alumni have transitioned to the opposite sex. Our goal is to honor our students and to make sure all of our record keeping is accurate. We have found, however, that there is no way to have an "alias" or "otherwise known" in a record to maintain the connection to the previous name. In RE I can add the alias and search by the alias, but that capability is not available with CORE. With RE connect, as you all may know, CORE wins and the difference between the records at this point will continually override the RE entry. We were given the option to create a second record in CORE to reflect the new name and gender and connect through relationship. This seems overly complicated and will hinder data searches for those employees not intimately aware of the changes and will duplicate an existing record in RE.
