Help please - Matching Gifts are automatically added when committing an OLX or BBNC batch

Options
Hey everyone, has anyone else experienced this issue and found a workable solution? I never encountered this at my previous org, so I know it is not a universal issue.

When I bring gifts into a batch from BBNC or OLX, and then commit the batch, the batch automatically adds a Matching Gift Pledge to a donor's record (yes, this donor has an org relationship set up to match gifts). The batch never prompts me with a prompt or pop-up window to ask me if I want to save or delete the Matching Gift Pledge (like when I enter any other kind of gift batch). I contacted support and got this KB article for an answer, which is a very poor "solution" for many reasons. I never encountered this issue at my previous org, so I know it doesn't happen to everyone.

If you have a better solution than what is suggested in KB, I would really appreciate your help!

For reference: we are hosted by Blackbaud, I use Citrix Receiver in my desktop instead of accessing RE through the url, I have supervisor rights. This is all the same as my last org. The only new factor is that I am using a Mac and the latest version of Windows for Mac (with the latest version of Citrix Receiver for Mac)

Sincere thanks,

Angela

  • I went through all of the records and unchecked the box that says the organization matches gifts. We had some very old records in our database that had that and I'd wind up with matching gifts that I didn't want. I'd rather be in control of adding them. We don't always know when donors change employers so it's hard to keep that information updated anyways. Since it's up to the donor to request the match having it on the record isn't that useful to us.

When you bring in a gift from OLX it also doesn't prompt you that the person has an open pledge. It would be nice if there was some way to be alerted about those things.

  • Not sure if this matters in terms of practical results of this, but...

Although the pledge appears on the donor record (as well as the matching org's record), it does not necessarily count toward the donor giving (unless you click the box to include it).

So, affectively, it's there as an FYI that the donor's gift is resulting in an additional match (as there's no easy way to know this without opening the gift to see).

Not sure if this changes your view as to whether or not to worry about the pledge showing up on the donor record or not, but thought I'd toss it out there in case it solves your concern and so your problem isn't one anymore (if that made any sense!).
