Keeping track of Event special guests without having the Event module

Would love to hear how others enter into db special guests invited to events (i.e. civic leaders, etc.) without having the event module.  1)  What kind of constituent code?  2)  Where to code this person's affiliation (i.e. 'Interfaith League", "State Legislature", etc.).  Easy to capture what they were invited to (attended or declined) using Actions, but how should they be put into the db?
