Documents confidentiality

Options
Hi everyone,

I am hosting a NetCommunity Website with document parts that are confidential. The problem is that when I look for information that the documents contain on google, google finds it and gives a direct link (pdf) to those documents.

Is there a way to block the access of a document from google search?

FYI - I am not using keywords or anything that would help google find the documents.

Thank you!

  • Hi Jean,

Add Google's "no index" code to the pages you want kept out of search engines. Be sure to use the unformatted text part & use the advanced options to place the code in the head tag. It won't be instant - Google/other search engines may need time to re-index your site.

    Hope that helps!
  • Great! Thanks for the quick answer. I'll try this right now and let you know if it worked.

  • Hi Jean,

When uploading files you can either upload them in the administrative back-end under Site explorer > Files or on the front-end of the website through a Documents part. If using the back-end, you can assign Targeting & security to the file. If the checkbox is marked to allow view rights to everyone then Google and other search engines will be able to crawl the document. Files uploaded via the Documents part will inherit the Targeting & security of the Documents part itself.

    Thanks!

    Tony
