Is it possible to test or preview eCommerce purchases?

There is no test drive of eCommerce purchases. However, it is possible to make a “test” purchase in eCommerce and experience the process from the buyer’s point of view, but only up to the billing screen. At that point, you'll get a decline if you use a fake credit card, and if you use a real credit card, your 'test' transaction becomes a real one.

To make this easier, we've created a special 100% discount code that is restricted to only folks in the site admin group. That way, we can make a "purchase" in our store, but everything we purchase is 100% off.

We did an extensive beta test on our first product using ecommerce with a group of volunteers and we were able to create a specific 100%discount code they used only for the beta test period, after which we disabled it. It worked like a charm and helped us get great "focus group" feedback before launching the product through ecommerce.
