Benchmark reports?

Can any one share  benchmark report templates (Raiser's Edge)? I try to evaluate the health of our programs and explore areas to growth.

Catherine, we do a number of year-end analyses. Many can be run in a RE report, others need either a custom report or else manual tallies. Some of the (many) things we measure:


Total revenue, gifts, donors compared to last year

Revenue by Fund compared to last year (where donations went)

Revenue by channel compared to last year (direct mail appeals, events, newsletter BRE, planned gifts, campaigns, online, etc.)

Database stats: # constituents, # active, new, lapsed, recovered, upgraded, downgraded, 2-gift donors, major donors, monthly donors, memberships, per major constituency

5-year flowchart of lapsed donor #s to identify trends

Best Constituencies, geographic regions, avg age of donors

Where new donors mostly came from

Summary of database hygiene processes performed

How many mailings donors received (how many received 12+ mailings, 8-12 mailings, 5-7 mailings, etc.)

Appeal stats: # sent, revenue, total cost, cost per piece, ROI, up or down from last year

Event revenues/expenses compared to last year

Grants received & followup needed

Membership stats: total #, # and revenue increase/decrease over last year, preferred giving channel piechart

Solicitor performance: # actions, notes, visits

Survey results (if any)


This pretty much falls to me to run all of these numbers. Needless to say it takes me a couple of weeks to put it all together in a pretty presentation format. I am still working on this year's. If you want templates or data-pulling procedures for any of these, let me know and I'll be happy to share.
