How to limit Events and Ticket Classes by Security Category

Options

After extensive testing and a few conversations with the Calendar Product Manager I have determined that we can limit events and ticket classes by Security Category. Here's what you need to do to make this happen:

For each group you will want to limit either an event or a ticket class by you need to make a Security Category to be associated with that group. To create those Security Categories follow these steps:

Create a new Security Category by clicking the link on the Security Category list page.

Name the Security Category the a name similar to the group name that will be associated with the Security Category, complete the description so you know what the category is for later and give it a priority of Medium then click Save.

Click the Category Permissions tab to change the permissions for the Security Category created in step 2.

From the dropdown pick "Content Viewing" then click the Choose button.

Scroll down to the Groups Being Overridden section and click show all groups.

Make sure the Site Visitors groups can not view content and the group associated with the security category can view content. For example, for the security category "Builder Friend" select cannot view content next to Site Visitors and view content next to Builder Friend Group.

Click save and your new security category is created!

Once you have created all of the Security Categories needed you then need to associate those to their respective groups. To do this follow these steps:

Go to the Groups section of the staging site and edit the group that needs to be associated with the Security Category. If a group doesn't exist for it to be associated with the Security Category create a new group and make it the User Security security mode.

In the Security Category dropdown pick the Security Category that should be associated with that group then click Save.

You can then apply those Security Categories to either an event as a whole or to ticket classes on an event. If you have an event that only one membership level should attend then you should limit the entire event. If you have an event that is open but you want to give specific pricing to different levels you would leave the event in the general Security Category but apply the appropriate Security Categories to the ticket levels with pricing that corresponds to those levels.
