Slow JavaScript slider - Using Custom Content Part

Options
We have a custom content part on the home page of a client’s site – it loads a javascript slider and is loading quite slowly – other content always loads first then the custom part appears and pushes the other content down.  Is there any way to speed up the loading of the custom parts?  Is there something we are missing that might help?  We included some supporting javascript files within the part – should those be loaded in the header of the page instead?  Thanks for any insight.

Hi Rebecca! Would you mind sharing the link to the page with the slider you're talking about? Or, if it isn't publically available, perhaps posting the code as a reply? I'm sure there's someone who will be able to troubleshoot.

  • Hi Rebecca,

What are the sizes and resloution of the images the slider is trying to load?  Once the slider does load, if you refresh the page does it show immediately or take awhile to load?
  • Hi Amy & Jordan - thanks for chiming in to help!
    • Here's the link to the slider: https://www.swschool.org/
    • Images are 150 dpi to better accomodate high res displays, cropped outside of BBNC & each of them has been optimized in Photoshop as well as via Optimizilla/TinyPNG/ or the like so they shouldn't be the issue.
Let me know if y'all need any more information from my end to help troubleshoot.

    Happy Friday!

It loaded fine, for me, in Chrome and Firefox ~1 sec.  It did take a little longer in IE.  I noticed in IE that you have a caching error showing in console that could be cause the part to load slower on the first time.  I hope this helps!

  • Script error? Yikes...I will pass on that error to our programmer and see if she can get it resolved for us!

Good to know it loaded quickly for you. We've done a bit of tweaking to see if we could help the situation & that seems to have worked to a degree. IE always is the pokey little puppy. I wish we could take it out of the equation but older demographics just aren't embracing modern browsers.

Thanks again for taking the time to help troubleshoot this with me. You're a rock star & very much appreciate the extra set of eyes & expertise!

Quick update - that script error is from the Instagram widget and not something we can control. Thanks again for the extra eyes.
