Screen Reader / JAWS for RE NXT

Options
Hi

We are just implementing RE NXT and have a visually impaired user who uses JAWS 18.2 screen reading software to navigate his screens.  We have tested it for NXT and it is largely ok, but there are a few elements that would benefit from having a JAWS script applied to improve the navigation (e.g. unlabelled buttons).  Any tips?  Is anyone further down this path than me?

thanks

John

    Hi John,
Did you find any success with implementing JAWs with NXT? We have a team member who is experiencing difficulties when attempting to navigate within NXT and runs into issues with actions and opportunities when a screen pops up above the main screen. Any insight would be of great help! Thank you.

    Hi Danielle

Yes - our visually impaired user has been using NXT with Jaws since we went live in 2018. From time to time a change in the settings in Jaws or an issue with the layout in NXT can cause him problems, but we can usually identify how to handle the situation. For example, there can be situations where the tab order is not quite what it appears it should be visually, or a control on the form is missed and you need to hit the space bar to select it and get the screen reader to activate it. If I help him work through we normally resolve it together - the key for the user who doesn't need Jaws to work out what to do is to only navigate using the keyboard, not the mouse or touchpad. I believe the way Opportunities and Actions pop up can be tricky, but I think he is on top of this. If you can navigate it using a Tab key and space bar (which we can in NXT) the issue may be a setting in Jaws. If you let me know specifically what is wrong I can ask him for help, although he is on leave for a couple of weeks right now.

    Thanks
    John
