Can a participant change their own registration?

Options
We use LO/TR for events that host Walk|Run combinations.  Some attendees register just for Walk, other for Run only.  There is also a combo option to have both.  Is there a way for someone, post transaction, to go and change THEIR OWN registration if they didn't select properly the first time or changed their mind?

eg:  Martha registers for 5K Run.  She's learned her friends are staying on and attending the walk afterwards, now she wants to attend that too.  How can she change her registration to reflect this addition?  When she attempts to register again for the Walk, the system states (correctly so) that she is already registered.  Is there any way that she can change her registration herself or is the EM needed to correct the situation?  And if EM - how?  If she can - how?

  • I don't think one can change their registration esp. with regards to the initial participant type they registered as.

However as alternative / idea in future, if you are foreseeing that kind of dynamic -- you might want to tap into the use of "registration question" which you can set within the Teamraiser > Edit > 3. Select Event Options > Under "Related Actions" on your left column sidebar > Edit Event Questions. This question can also be toggled to appear on specific participant types.  And the answer to that question could be updated by the participants itself from within their Participant Center.

Doing so, you can have a use case scenario where
    • You have just a single participant types, and the question would further elaborate what sub activities that they would like to be participating OR
    • You still can have multiple participant types where they want to participate mainly on specific activities and the question would serve as ad-hoc to indicate that they would also be interested in participating on so and so other activities.
There are many usages of that question, not just for this purpose alone, like in our case we use it for a badge/milestone recognizing returning participants, or we use it for them to define what size of jersey they might be wearing for the cycling event, etc.

    Hope that helps.

Unfortunately, this won't work as some participant types have fees that are charged, while others do not.  So we may have a constituent who registers for the free walk and wishes to now edit their registration by adding the 5K run ($35 fee) to their registration.

Or a registrant wishes to now add their 3 kids to their registration after they've registered.

Any solutions beyond delete/refund and start over?

    Thanks,

  • The only solution I can think of is to use eCommerce, if you have that module. This is commonly used to offer supporter/cheerer t-shirts and extras like that.

You can integrate eCom products right into teamraiser pages. So offer a 'participant upgrade' which they could purchase at any time. You could even send coaching emails with links right to the product to encourage upgrades.

Then I would manually change their participant type to match on the backend when you get a purchase notification, which an admin can do. I try hard to avoid manual processes like this, but I don't see an alternative. I think you'll want them to have the proper participant type for reporting, etc.

For those they should just use the regular registration process.
