Individuals vs Teams vs Companies

We are a trade organization and our members are new car dealerships.  We're setting up our first TR event under our Driving Away the Cold program.  This program buys new winter coats for children living in poverty in our area.  Our idea was to have the dealership be the TEAM, and then the employees could make INDIVIDUAL pages under it.  Sometimes there are multiple dealerships owned by one person, so we were going to link those under COMPANY.  So, let's say I'm Meg Ryan (individual), I own Meg Ryan Auto Group (company) and have Meg Ryan BMW, Meg Ryan Mini and Meg Ryan Honda (teams).  I am the person creating the three team pages but I can't reuse the same email address and I will have three separate Participant Center logins.  If I want to see all of my progress I would need to log in three separate times. 


We are not the typical non profit but just wondering if anyone ran into a similar issue and had any suggestions.

Hi Meghann,


Do the following:

1. Create Local Company within your TR  (that's under "manage" link and "Local Company" tab) -- that will serve as the umbrella team holding all of those regular teams.
2. Associate those regular teams to that newly created local company / umbrella team instance so that everything progress wise would automatically rolls up into that local company.  
   
   
   Example: Meg Ryan Auto Group  would be your Local Company, and you need associate those already created regular teams (Meg Ryan BMW, Meg Ryan Mini, and Meg Ryan Honda) with that Meg Ryan Auto Group   -- the options to associate each individual team is also available from your TR > manage > "Teams" tab > click on "manage" link of the associated team that you want to affiliate with, and > Edit Team Details
   • A Local Company would have its own page. Here's an actual example of a local company / umbrella team page within our -- event http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR/StepOut/StepOutContent?company_id=24997&pg=company&fr_id=12088

That should probably answer what you might be looking for. 


But of course there might be more 'advanced' way to capitalize from the use of Local Company to accomodate a more complex grouping/classification of those otherwise individual regular teams belonging to the same group.  


Here's an example where we have multiple umbrella teams representing different internal group of an organization, of which each of those umbrella teams consists of their own regular teams, and the stakeholders wanted a way to represent the stats/tally of each of these regular individual teams as well as those umbrella teams within a page. So in this one you have to use combination of Luminate Online S-tag and the API to achieve that where the component could then be embedded into a TR custom page and delegated the custom page for our event managers to populate the rest of the page to their heart content -- this would be another story another scope. But you may preview our actual proof-of-concept prototyping here:

P.S.  There's no need to login to view/access those local company pages nor custom TR pages by default it's publicly accessible.

This was a huge help- thank you Daniel!  Few follow up questions. 

1. Have you ever run into one person being team captain for multiple teams?  In my example- I am Meg Ryan and am the team captain for Meg Ryan Honda, Meg Ryan BMW and Meg Ryan Mini, and TR won't allow you to use the same email address for multiple registrations.
2. I figured out how to change text and pictures on the company pages, but I have access to LO, is there a way for a participant to change their company page?

#1. Ok, as for having the same email address to be used for multiple registration for separate accounts you could do that -- there's an SDP setting that can be turned on/off to allow shared email addresses to be used for different account.


However, same individual on same account (first name, last name, email) cannot be registered multiple times on a single event / TR -- the system won't allow that.  Hence with that said, a registered participant can only be a team captain for only one team not multiple teams. He/she could have a co-captain though for each team and again those co-captains would only be co-captaining the team that they registered to join to initially not other team(s).


#2. You can assign someone within that team / a team member of that team (that includes / usually a Team Captain) as Company Coordinator from the backend  ( > Edit Company > 2. Identify Company Coordinator). Once that person has been assigned as Company Coordinator, he/she would have access to edit the Company Page from their Participant Center.
