Allow the owners of the data to update opt-in email addresses

Options
We have a few users who accidentally opt-out of email for lists that are imported.  Since we are not linking BBNC to RE records yet, I have to request with Blackbaud support that the email address be updated because the users do not have the email that would allow them to go back to undo their accidental request.  This requires an email from the recipient authorizing me to request the update by Blackbaud.  Sometimes this is even a hassle because the recipient is technologically challenged.

Why are we not allowed to update this ourselves since we are the actual owners of the data?

  • Hi Cammi,

Thank you fo reaching out. In order to comply with various laws regarding spam and electronic communication, including CASL in Canada and CAN-SPAM in the United States, the owner of the email address has to provide authorization to opt back into communications. This can be done by the receipient directly by opting back in through the original email that they received or if or she does not have the original email, Blackbaud support can manually remove the opt out once we have authorization.

    Thanks!

    Tony
