Best Practices: Should we make email required on Secondary Registration Information?

Options
Is it a best practice to require a secondary registration email address? We would like to get as many email addresses as possible without making it harder for people to register. Please let me know your experience with having this requirement.

Thanks!

  • As much as we wanted to collect email address too, we decided not to require it on multiple registration.  We found that the person registering (other than a family) they either don't know the person's email address or doesn't want to give it out.  We also found that they would enter "fake" addresses.  We did however put on our multiple registration form that if they are registering people other than family member to please provide us with the person's email address so they can receive our weekly event newsletter and coaching emails and to also receive any important changes to the event.  That was the best we could do to capture emails.

  • We require an email address, but we also allow duplicate email addresses (in Teamraiser only.)

So much of Teamraiser relies on email: donation notices, coaching email, event day alerts, etc. that we felt that participants really need it.

We allow duplicates to handle parents with a child that doesn't have an email address, or won't provide it.

We require email, but allow duplicates as others have said.
