Email opt-outs but they now have new email address

Options
Wondering what others are doing in the case when you had someone opt out of email -- based on their work email -- and then they change organizations and now have a new email address?
  • This is in part due to people opting out when they are either transitioning out of or have actually left their position at an organization.
    • They choose to opt out, so it comes into us as an opt-out that's tied to the constituent.
    • But what they're really doing is trying to 'turn off' their email address that only applied to their address at the organization they no longer work at.
  • So when they have new employment and a new email address, do we consider 'resetting' their email back to active and not opted out? Would we uncheck 'Requests no email' to start over?
Any experience with this scenario?

  • Hi Gina,

We run into this all the time, not just with people changing work emails but changing home/personal emails as well.  We change the old email address to "Former Email," add the new email address to Bio1, and uncheck the Requests No Email box.  This has worked fine for us and no one has complained about getting emails from us at the new addess.
