Primary Email Address

In Raiser's Edge, all emails can be given the same "E-mail" type with one being marked primary. Netcommunity, however, doesn't seem to recognize a primary email type. From what I'm told, it simply pulls the first email address. Is there any way for NetCommunity to only pull the primary email address?

  • In BBNC and RE v7.93, you define the email type that you want BBNC to use.  If you just recorded a single email on a record, then you could define that -- but if you recorded Work, Home, etc. you had a problem and this forced many of us to create an email type called 'Preferred'. We'd have to replicate the email we wanted BBNC to use as the Preferred email.


    In RE v7.94 forward where they've now changed the emails to have a 'Preferred' indicator, not sure how BBNC is handling this?

    I noticed the 'Preferred' indicator but checked in with Blackbaud and learned that it isn't recognized in BBNC. I'm hoping that will change soon.

  • Hello, just following up on this thread. I am also trying to understand that when a message is sent with the "Primary" Email Address Type selected as the target address, if there is no email designated as "Primary" what happens? Will NetCommunity send to the first available email record it finds? Or will it just not send at all?

    If the constituent has no email designated as "Primary" then the email will be sent to the email type configured in Phone Type Mapping in Admin -> Site and Settings.

     - Historically, Raiser’s Edge had
    no concept of a primary email address. Emails sent from
    NetCommunity were delivered to the email address type that
    corresponds to the Email Address Phone type mapping in Sites &
    Settings. As of Raiser’s Edge 7.94, a Primary Email flag was added
    on the constituent record. Moving forward with NetCommunity 7.1,
    customers can target "Primary" as the email address in
    Messages. If a constituent does not have an email address flagged as
    primary, then the email type set in Phone Type mapping will be
    used.
