I have found that it doesn't matter how long a URL is in Twitter - it counts as the same number of characters. I kind of prefer using our short URLs to link shorteners because the links seem less suspect to me: www.audubonaction.org/gilariver seems friendlier than http://act.ly/gr (and takes up the same number of characters).



Also, regarding URLs for Call Alerts (or anything else in Luminate), it's not as easy as when the product just tells you the URL, but once you know the structure, you can just replace the ID number to get your URL. There's a similar issue with StoryBuilder articles. My workaround was to use the WYSIWG to figure out the link structure once, and then save that link for posterity, simply replacing the ID number for subsequent articles.Which is not to say that it makes sense that Luminate provides the URLs in some areas of the product and not others, but at least there's a workaround.

I agree on the workarounds, but frankly as a decade long user of GetActive/Kintera/Convio/Luminate it's ridiculous that workarounds are still necessary. The product simply needs an overhaul. While the new product roadmap should address some of the issues, these are issues that have been around for years. For example, here's another feature request I just submitted to the portal:

This is a frustration I've had when we are sending thank/spank actions and that sort of thing to Congress. Basically, I want different language to go to different sets of lawmakers, but all within ONE action alert for the volunteer. Right now, how we do this is prioritize one of these actions over the other, and we have to do a lot of back-end work to send one alert link to some of our volunteers and a different alert to the others. But, when we're targeting both House and Senate, and all lawmakers from a state did not vote the same way, we are not sending messages as all to many of those lawmakers. Any others share this frustration?
