How to enter in-kind Gifts in just the Event Module alone

Hello! I am trying to record in-kind gifts in the Event module without linking to a gift record in the Constituent record. Anyone have any ideas for how to do this?



The problem is, we do not generally post in-kind gifts in the Constituent Gift record, so as to avoid assigning $ value to an item and messing up our financials/income statements. So, if I try to enter a gift under Event - Participant - Donations, there is no gift record to link it to anyway. Any ideas would be helpful - thanks!

To avoid posting GIK to financials you can mark gift as do not post.  

Other things one can do is use gift type GIK, $0 value for amount of gift, and/or paymethod of 'Other'.  Many orgs use 'other' and do not post that gift type.

We have a special Campaign for such donations (items to be auctioned, etc.) that gets excluded from all financial reports but still lets us track the GIK.

Thanks! I'll see what Financial thinks of the $0 gift amount idea. I'm surprised our former database manager did not think of that solution. Are there any cons to this approach in regards to financial tracking and/or with Financial Edge?
