Add Constituent Attributes functionality to Email Preferences without user requirements

Options
I would love the ability to include Constituent Attributes in User Email Preferences without the user having to log-in to a user profile. We do not currently use the user functionality but having those attributes in the RE record would allow us to send emails according to user preferences without them having to opt out of all email communication.

  • Hey Sarah,

You do not have to log in for this to work. If you send the final email to a constituent list, and then click the link from that email it'll work. This will not work for test messages, nor if we use something other than a constituent list.

    Thanks!

Not sure I understand your answer, Karen. The preferences lists are not being generated for us on constituents who aren't logged in and so we are getting a lot of opt out of everything when I know that's not especially what the constituent wants -- we've checked on a few of them and opt out of all was the only thing they say on their page. I, however, when I am logged into NC, I get the nice little list that shows various types of emails to opt out of receiving.  So, logged in, click the preferences link -- I get a list of options. Not logged in, click the same preferences link in the same email and I get only one option -- opt out of everything.

  • Hi Karla

You can use the User Email Preferences part without having people logged in.

All you need to do is go to Administration -. Sites and Settings and click to the top level website and then, in the Settings tab, scroll down to Attributes.

You'll see a tickable list of your RE attributes - just mark the ones you'd like to use with the User Email Preferences part.

Do not forget to "Save" (at the top of the page) in order to make the change, and it might also involve refreshing the code tables (Administration -> Code tables).

Then, within the part, you'll have the option to select the attributes to use.

Just bear in mind, for that to work, the users need to land to your webpage from an email sent through NetCommunity, using a Constituents query (it creates a behind-the-scene token to identify who's who).

    Hope it makes sense

I wish it were as simple as stated. It's still not working properly for me. Guess it will have to be a call to the techs to see what's up with my opt-outs/attributes.
