How do you change the order of address fields on the donation form?

Options
Hi, at the moment on my donation form email address and phone number come first followed by country, postcode and address. This is not a logical order for us and I would like to know how to change this. At the moment I am struggling to find it under fine tuning.

Thanks you

Hi Alice. The third step "Look and feel" allows you to re-order sections of the Online Express form, however email address and phone are part of the billing address section and can not be individually reordered.

Our research shows that asking for email address (and optionally phone) prior to the physical address itself was a usability improvement and an industry best practice. Can you tell me more about the situation you are experiencing that isn't working for you?

Thank you for your quick reply, I can see how to re-order 'billing address' as a block, but not the individual elements of it. I would like it to appear, address, city/county, postcode and then country. Is this possible?

    Many thanks for your help.

Hi Alice. You can not reorder individual elements inside the billing address section.

The reason Country is asked first is that if a user changes their country selection, the form elements change to accommodate the country's postal standards. For example, if a donor changes their country from UK to Canada, the address fields automatically change to display the appropriate fields.
  • Hi Matt

This seems a bit strange; I can see why country comes first (from your explanation) but this doesn't accommodate our postal standards. In the UK it would be address, city/county, postcode. Unfortunately this doesn't make it user friendly.

On a slightly different note, is there anyway we can make city not compulsory?

    Thank you

Hi Alice, thanks for highlighting this point. Doing some quick research on form order in the UK, I did find some examples of organizations asking Postcode first, but I agree it may make more sense to ask Postcode last; so the order would be address, city, county, postcode. We will do some more research on this and look into possibly making a change.

We do not require County, but City is a required field, which seems to be standard practice for UK transactions.
