Appeal field limited to only one option?

Options
We just switched over and are in the process of setting up the gift forms. Are the appeals (sources or reasons for giving) limited to only one option? Is there a work-around to provide a pull down menu or the ability to select from a menu or list as available in netCommunity and NetSolutions? Or, does it pull directly from RE? We only want to make available a select number of appeals like Personal Experience, In honor of, In memory of, Television, Newspaper, Solicitation among others.

Tracking reasons for giving are key for our entities. Also, is the comments field category name editable since that is the only current available option?

  • Yes, the donation forms are limited to one appeal per form. The purpose of the appeal is for internal tracking purposes to see what the source of the donation was, in this case, the donation form.

I think what you're describing is a field on the form to ask the donor the motivation or source of the gift (e.g. Website, Email, Mailing, Phone Call, Web Search, etc).

Our research from tens of thousands of donations is that the traditional "How did you hear about us?" question provides marginal value and can impact donor conversion rate. Instead, we are looking into adding a question AFTER the transaction is made.

Yes, if you wanted to recaption the "Comments" form, then it could be used for this purpose.
  • How do you "recaption" the Comments field? Also, wouldn't most people just close or exit after their transaction goes through?
  • Just go to Donation forms and click on Step 4: Fine tuning. From there you can click on any field to recaption it.

Good question about what happens after the donation. We're doing some research now to answer that question.

  • ok, thanks. I can't access Fine tuning yet since we're still in the setup stage and its not linked to our website yet. I wish i knew about this appeal/source limitation before switching over to OE.

Here's the good news. In a future release, we are adding the ability to put your own questions on the form. Our research and feedback from customers suggest this is a better way to solve needs like this one.

What timeline are you at for adding the option of custom questions on the form? I haven;t seen that when creating forms. Thanks.

Hi Tina, you can add gift attributes to your donation forms to collect any extra necessary information you need. You can find this on the "Extras" step of the donation form setup.
