survey sex/ gender options

Options
I notice that I'm only allowed to use "Female" or "Male" as options when I ask a survey question based on sex. Is there any way to change this? I want to be inclusive and have "trans" or even "other" as options.

  • It appears that you can add other options to that table (Config > Tables > Gender), however I just did a test, and the option I added to the table is not available on a consituent record.  Not sure if this is a glitch in RE or if that table is not editable (or it could be that a predecessor of mine added a new table called "Gender" that is used somewhere else, and the table for the Bio 1 field is not accessible).  I would use Chat Support or Knowledgebase, and then if it's not something you can change in Config, I would post it on the Ideas section for BB to consider.

There should also be an "Unknown" option in that field...  Not really helpful in your specific situation, but if that's not appearing, be sure to mention it to BB if you contact them about this.
  • Unfortunately this is hard-coded in the program with only the 3 current options.  Add your votes here to get this changed in a future version:  http://rediscovery.uservoice.com/forums/137015-raiser-s-edge-discovery-topics/suggestions/4530227-add-another-gender-option-besides-male-female-unkn

Jennifer, I believe your gender table is user created by a predecessor as you suggested.  RE gender field used on Bio 1 tab is not editable.
  • Hi All!

John had a great reply in including the User Voice suggestion above - I would highly recommend that you upvote that suggestion so we can consider it for the future! At this time, the actual Gender table that maps to the Bio 1 tab in RE is not editable. As a workaround, you could add a Constituent Attribute to include more gender options, and then include that on your survey instead, if possible. Here's information on how to add a new attribute in The Raiser's Edge: https://kb.blackbaud.com/articles/Article/46321

    Hope this helps!
