Importing (New) Constituents into an Existing Organisation

Options
Been trying to do this for a while, but have trawled through various Knowledgebase solutions can't seem to find one that quite works.

Basically I'm trying to import some new individuals as constituents and link them to an existing organisation, BUT, I only want there to be one address (that of the organisation as that's the only address we have for the new individuals.

But when I try to do this via import I either end up with two identical addresses, or it won't let me do it because there is no address. Has anyone got any ideas? The best I've come up with is to import a fake address such as XXXX ZZZ Street and then group delete all of these afterwards.

Thanks,

Matt

Yes, and getting rid of the duplicate address caused by a relationship is a pain.

Your idea sound like it would work.  TEST it first as always when importing with one or two records.  I'm swamped today so don't have time to 'play/test' anything.  Is address info required when importing constituents?  I'm thinking not, but I believe RE will automatically create a blank preferred address.  If you have the query, perhaps you could then do a global change (overwrite) of the blank ones with the org record.  Are you importing the org and its address as a relationship.  You may still end up with two.

I hope another user has a better answer for you.
  • Thanks JoAnn
  • I don't know how many you have, but we did this for about 80-90 people once using a constituent batch.

In this particular instance we had to retype everything anyway, so it was easier than setting up an import.
