Adding ONLY Primary contact to output

Options
I need all business that have sponsored an event. In the criteria I only have the Fund ID associated with the sponsors of the event. On the output I want to see the Primary Contact for each business if there is one, obviously the output for a business would be blank if they did not have a primary contact listed. If I add Primary Contact to the Criteria, all of the businesses that don't have a primary contact will excluded from the query. How do I add Primary Contact to the output of the query? The Primary Contacts in my database are listed under the Relationships tab as Individuals with Relationship as Primary Contact. Need any more information to produce accurate help let me know. Thanks, Drew

Use an Export instead to get the information you need.  In Export, on the Output tab, when you select any of the Relationship fields it will ask which Relationship Types you want to include, or use Contact instead of Individual Relationships, and it will ask which Contact Types to include and this is where you select Primary Contact.

As I understand your question - you want your final output to include ALL organizations that have sponsored an Event - and IF they have a primary contact - that person should be included. I that's the correct scenario - then I would suggest using an Export instead of Query. You have grouped your records using query - but now that you want additional information for the entire group - Export gives you more options. As you build your export - when you select Relationship\\Individual - when you select a field for the output you will get a pop up box asking you how many Individual Relations you want to export - and how do you want to restrict the output. The default is ALL Individual Relations - if you choose Selected Individual Relations you can then select your people with the relationship of Primary. Then - when you export your results - you will have ALL your organization sponsors - with information on the Primary Contact for those who have a Primary Contact. If you wanted your query to show ONLY those organizations that have a contact coded as Primary - you could do that in the query by adding a selection criteria of Individual Relation Relationship = Primary - but then you lose those orgs that do not have a Primary Contact. Hope this helps!

Thank you, this works great. I am so used to using the query function, I forget that the export exists. Drew
