Importing as a means of grouping through output query

Options
I am trying to import specific salutation text into existing constituent records. I have the constituent IDs and specific text on an excel sheet and that's all. The specific salutation type already exists in RE, just not on these constituent records. I need salutation Id's and I think a good way to start is to capture all of these constituents in a query. I know there is a way to create an output query by importing constituent ids only. It's sort of a fake-out that is really effective. Can anyone help? Thanks!

I know it's late but my brain's not getting it.  You are adding vaious formats of salutation text on a group of records.  Not all the same format?  But using existing add/sal formats?  Or all these all needing to be editable.  Trying to figure out need for creating a query by import.

If they are all the same add type why not just do a query of constit ID one of and paste in the list of Constit IDs?  Then you can do a global change and add the salutation.

Anyway, couldn't remember how to easily create the output query so I just did a search and found this for how to get output query using import:  http://forums.blackbaud.com/forums/p/13029/44427.aspx#44427 .  There's a link to other thread too.

If you go to Config, then Addressee/Salutations, you can right click and export the Add/Sal grid to Excel. When you figure out what number the Add/Sal is, it should be straightforward to add it to the records using import.
