Linking historic gifts to a recurring gift and updating Schedules

Hello everyone, i have been tasked with finding a solution to a very messy problem that our charity has. Just over a year ago we went through a migration process moving from CARE to Raisers Edge, once on RE we saw a number of issues, one of which was our Direct Debits. Alot of the payments have been entered as Cash, rather than Recurring Gift Pay-Cash (and thus not linked to the Direct Debit). We have brainstormed a way of fixing this but all talks and conversations come back to deleting ALL the gifts that were meant to be linked to the Recurring gift (along with those that have been correctly linked to the Recurring Gift) do mass manipulation in Excel and Import them. This is something we would like to avoid if possible. Also, we would like to be able to update our Schedules once we have linked all the gifts so they are up to date and. Our main cause for concern is the first part of this regarding the Direct debits. I am open to any and all advice that will take me away from deleting them all historically and re-importing them

Unfortunately, I  don't know of any way other than the deleting and importing.  I would certainly check with BB support though. 

I know when we converted our data, we did simplify a bit in that those with monthly recurring gifts/monthy pledge payments via direct debit we just put in the total amount for the historic info.  We ended up doing that as in our coversion data they used data for each transaction was not recorded.  Finance office still had the detailed records.  Might be something to consider if you're looking back several years and don't need all the details in RE at this point.
