Updating RE Records - Non-Donors

Hello: We are looking to develop a process of cleaning/updating our Raiser's Edge records. I'm wondering if anyone might be able to provide any policies / guidelines you have at your organization. Our donors' records are regularly updated. I enter gifts and update any contact information at the time the gift is received. Our issues surround non-donors. While it isn't ideal, Raiser's Edge is also our marketing database. So, I pull data from Raiser's Edge for newsletters and other mailings. Records (and contacts for organizations - this is the big issue) are updated as I hear of changes with our community partners, vendors, prospects, etc. Some of this is sent to me internally, the rest I find through local news. Needless to say, I miss a lot. We still want to communicate with these external audiences, but know we need to improve our method for keeping our information up-to-date. Does anyone have a policy that they are willing to share? Thank you! Jennifer
