Can you import an e-mail with only the SSN as an identifer? Everything I try says I need the Address Import ID. Is there a way around this?

    Rebecca,

The email address, like a phone #, is attached to an address.  So yes, the SSN can be your identifier but you would need to import essentially a blank new address that would then contain the email.  You would create a field of Address Import ID and create the ID #.  This would be an import type of 'create new records (address records).  Other than the email all the address info would be blank.   If part of this address, I'm pretty sure it will not show up on the Bio 1 tab unless this blank address is the primary address. Which works fine if this is all you have for address info.  Not so good if they have existing addresses.  To me not the best option.

Are these addtional info to records already in your database?  If so, one option might be to create a query if possible of the records where these addresses will be imported (if not could even export whole database).  Export the SSN and the primary address import ID to excel.  Combine this with your excel file containing the email addresses and SSN.  Then so some magic in excel to find the duplicate SSNs, some creative sorting and data copying to create a record for the constituent that has their SSN, the address import ID and the email in one row.  Then delete duplicates/unwanted reocrds. You could use that file to import the emails to the primary addresses.

    Just a suggestion....

I like the second option that JoAnn outlined.  I have exported the entire database including the Primary Address Import ID, name fields so you can double check against the list you have and SSN.

In Excel, you can do a VLookup on your SSN and bring over your AddrImportID.  The VLookup function is definitely worth learning - I use it all the time.

Thanks! The tedious work in excel is what I was trying to avoid since I have over 10,000 new e-mails.- I want to keep my current addresses.

    Thanks for the help!
