Tracking Volunteers in RE without "RE Volunteer"

Options

We would like to track our Volunteer Hours in RE, but we do not have the volunteer module. I'm looking for suggestions or someone who can share their experience in this situation! It would be basic (hours worked per month). We don't need options such as: time in, time out, job descriptions, and certifications.

I am the biggest proponent of putting all info in RE....expect sometimes.  I once managed a super small volunteer program and needed only the basic info you describe for less than 100 volunteers.  In this instance it was far more efficient and consistent and easier to report by creating a spreadsheet.  I added a tab for each year and had less than 20 columns: name, constituent ID, each month, total for the year, value to the org, and total for all time and used formulas to add everything up.  I kept constituent ID in so that at the end of the year, I could import the info as an attribute to each volunteers record.

I think data entry and reporting was too time consuming each month and I didn't want to end up with hundreds of attributes on the records.
